A lot of people think that orthodontic treatment should be addressed when the necessity arises. That’s not necessarily wrong, but there are a lot of advantages to starting your kids on the path to a healthy bite and perfect smile early on. Dr. Bodine and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend that a child has their first orthodontic exam around the age of seven. This is a crucial time in your child’s dental and facial development and by scheduling this appointment, we can better head off any problems before they arise. At Bodine Orthodontics, we do not believe in charging for these semi-annual visits because we know the criticalness of planning ahead and the importance of monitoring your child’s development.
As an Orthodontist, Dr. Bodine received extensive training during his 30 month residency, after completing his dental degree, in growth and development and dento-facial orthopedics. At this critical appointment, Dr. Bodine will evaluate your child’s facial pattern to look for proper balance, symmetry and growth. He’ll count the number of teeth, take appropriate x-rays and make sure that you know where, when and how to go about helping your child get all of their teeth into a great smile.
We want you and your kids to be comfortable getting check-ups and visiting the orthodontist before any orthodontic treatment is necessary. It is important to us that your kids have a great time when they come see us, look forward to their orthodontic appointments and are proud to show off their smiles. It’s never too early to make an appointment. Get in touch today to get started.
Let’s make a plan to help them grow.
Your kids are unique. You know that, and naturally, you want them to be treated that way. That’s exactly what we do at Bodine Orthodontics. We treat each patient as a unique individual. That’s because we believe that understanding your child’s personality and unique stage of development is going to help us choose the best treatment for them. There are any number of options that could be right for your kids, from a few braces to straighten up that snaggle tooth or make extra room for incoming adult teeth, to an expander or AdvanSync to obtain the proper alignment for jaw growth, or just sitting back and observing your child’s development to see when the right time to start full orthodontics will be. Like you, we just want to do what’s best for them. And we’d love to get started now.
At Bodine Orthodontics we are here from the first orthodontic checkup- for families in the Prosper, Celina, Aubrey, Frisco and McKinney area.

Invisalign Teen® is a great clear alternative to traditional braces for some busy teens. Through a series of clear, comfortable, custom made plastic aligners, Dr. Bodine can create a beautiful smile for your budding concert flutest or on-the-go sports star.
Invisalign aligners are designed to move your teeth in small steps to their final position as prescribed and designed by your orthodontist. Through this series of trays, changed out about every two weeks, your teen will be on their way to an AMAZING smile in no time. Since Invisalign trays are removable, your teen will be able to eat whatever they want and also be able to brush and floss normally, ensuring a happy, healthy set of teeth and gums to go along with their new smile. And since Invisalign trays are made of smooth plastic, you won’t have to take your teen out of school for pokey wires or loose brackets!
While a great orthodontic tool, Invisalign Teen® is not right for everyone. The only way to tell is to come sit down with Dr. Bodine for a comprehensive exam. Braces for Adults
When it comes to speed and efficiency in straightening your teeth, traditional braces are usually the most effective solution. Today, with new innovations and technology, traditional braces can straighten teeth with less discomfort, decreased frequency of appointments and shortened treatment times. Other technological advances have made orthodontics as an adult much more appealing. Cosmetic brackets and wires work similarly to traditional braces, but are clear or tooth colored in order to be less noticeable. There are also lingual braces, which are mounted on the back of the teeth instead of the front. Adult braces have come a long way in the recent years and Dr. Bodine understands that as an adult seeking orthodontic care, you want the best result in the most efficient treatment possible.
Of course, the only way to really know if adult braces are going to be right for you is to come sit down and talk with Dr. Bodine about your treatment goals.

Always wear your aligners:
With any good habit, it takes time to adopt and adjust to changes in your daily routine. Fortunately, many of our patients tell us that after only a week or two of full-time wear, they are actually more comfortable with the aligners in than out. Full-time wear means wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. You should only remove them for a total of 2 hours per day to eat, drink, and brush your teeth. You will know your teeth movements are progressing well when each new set of aligners fits comfortably on your teeth. In contrast, lack of full-time wear can cause each aligner to fit progressively worse.
The best results from your Invisalign in McKinney are obtained when your teeth fit perfectly in each aligner before you move on to the next. You know your aligners are not fitting well when there are air gaps between your teeth and the aligner. If you notice these gaps, we recommend using “chewies” which are small cylindrical cushions made of a plastic-like material called Styrene Copolymer. By biting down on chewies a few times a day for 5-10 minutes at a time, you will help seat the aligner.
Attachments should be embraced:
Invisalign treatment plans are composed of more than just the aligners. To maximize the effectiveness of the aligners, we strategically place attachments on specific teeth. Attachments are small tooth-colored dots of white filling material called dental bonding. Since aligners are removable, they can slip when trying to make certain movements. In these situations, attachments are used as an anchor to help the aligners get a better grip on your teeth. IPR is important: Depending on the current arrangement of your teeth and the movement needed to create your perfect smile, we may need to perform interproximal reduction (IPR), which is gentle sanding in between teeth to create more space. The computer modeling tool we use identifies where we need more space for alignment or for the occlusion (bite). It also tells us exactly how much is needed. You can rest assured that IPR is a very safe procedure that gives your teeth the room they need to move into their ideal positions.
